Ryd

The extension of a traditional Swedish torp cottage from the 1700’s in the woodlands of Småland. The client family wanted a bathroom with running water and a new entrance with more storage space.

We saw the wildly lush forest around the house and envisioned a private bath-house and sauna opening up towards the treetops. A safe space for caring for body and soul, enjoying water, warmth and light, being alone with nature.

Old windows were sourced and re-used for the bathroom and sauna.

We also saw the chance to give the extension a concrete-free foundation of natural rock plinths, connecting to the climate neutral construction craft of the old house, which has lasted so long.
